The Bowron Lake Museum at BRM
Bowron Lake is rich in human history, a history that is in danger of being lost. The owners of Bear River Mercantile strive to keep that history alive by actively collecting, researching and displaying their private collection. Enrich your paddle around the chain by visiting this 'must-see' collection to better understand the lakes and the people behind them.
As well as artifacts and interpretive displays, BRM is also home to the largest collection of old Bowron Lake photographs on display for the public. If you ever visited the Wells, Barkerville or Bowron Lake areas during the 'early' days or have anything to contribute, we'd love to hear from you.

Winter Time at Bowron Lake
During the winter months Bowron Lake offers a beautiful, crystalline play-land for the hardy winter sportsmen. Only non-motorized sports such as snowshoeing, x-country skiing and dog sledding are permitted within the Park boundaries, which greatly preserves the surreal calm of the snow-covered vistas and improves the chance glimpse of an elusive forest resident.
Two cabins at BRM can be opened during the winter months with limited amenities. Wood heat, propane stove and solar lights work year-a-round but the water is turned off after September, therefore the outdoor toilet facilities must be used. A barrel of water in the cabins is used for cooking and washing. Winter guests MUST email to make sure we'll be on site when you arrive; price / cabin / night is $95.00 regardless of the number of persons arriving (4 to 6 person limit dependent on which cabin). The cabins make a cozy home-base for sportsmen who want to head out on a variety of day trips.
For the backcountry enthusiasts who want to head out around the chain of lakes, our cabins make an excellent starting and ending point. Before heading into the backcountry make sure you do your research. Every year, every month, every day and even every hour can present different conditions. Feel free to contact us for current weather / ice conditions and for ideas of what to expect in the backcountry PLUS monitoring our facebook page gives you a great advantage to stay informed with current conditions.
We make a habit, at BRM, to collect as many winter trip reports as possible which are used to help inform other visitors who come during the winter months. If you have one for us to post here, please send it on.
These trip reports provide are eye-opening examples of how quickly the winter conditions can change in the Bowron backcountry. You can download and read each report by clicking on them. Look on our facebook page for ongoing winter postings and more reports.
